Most people think coaching starts with the first powerful question.
I’m discovering that it starts earlier – in the conversation where the relationship itself gets designed.
At the beginning of my Co-Active certification, one of the first big surprises was this: we didn’t jump straight into coaching, feedback, or performance. First, we took time to design our alliance.
How do we want to be together?
What helps us feel safe? How do we build trust?
And how do we repair when something feels off?
That hit me.
Because this is not just true for coaching. It’s true for any relationship that matters. In a team. In leadership. In a training. In a partnership. When people want to create something meaningful together, it is powerful to stop running on assumptions and start building the relationship consciously.
In this episode, I share what I’m learning right now about trust, diversity, repair, and why a strong alliance should sometimes even be written down – so you can come back to it, realign, and keep growing from it.
This is not admin. This is not a warm-up.
This is what makes the work possible.
Question for your week:
Where in my life would it help to stop assuming — and start designing the alliance?
If this resonates, follow the show and share it with someone who’s building trust, leading people, or learning how to create stronger relationships.
You’re Amazing!
